Our Star Intern: Kaitlyn Tran!

We are so grateful to have had our incredible intern Kaitlyn intern with us for six weeks. Travelling all the way from Boston University, Kaitlyn has a super CAN DO attitude about her: completing every task with great efficiency. Her determination, organizational skills, confidence and speed were true assets. She was instrumental in the success of the Thank God Its Friday Lunch, working tirelessly to get a huge number of fantastic prizes donated from so many companies. The day itself ran so smoothly with her there. In her short time here, Kaitlyn has made an incredible contribution: proving herself to be an indispensable part of the team. We are so sad to see her go, and wish her the best of luck with whatever career she sets her mind to. And if she does choose to go into events, she’ll be a force to be reckoned with!

We didn’t let her go however without first asking a few questions about her experience with Dreams2Live4…

What motivated or inspired you to intern at Dreams2Live4?

I have always considered myself a very philanthropic person. I find value in helping others so I have volunteered for various non-profits and charities. When Kerry asked me if I was interested in interning at Dreams2Live4 I was excited for this new opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. Once I started to research Dreams2Live4, I fell in love with the mission and just knew that I had to be a part of it! Since then, Kerry has been referring to me her “Dreams Girl” and I could not be happier here! The work that Dreams2Live4 does is incredible and I love that I can be a part of it.

Was there one Dream that stood out for you in particular?

I got to go on Tracey’s Dream to see the South Sydney Rabbitohs practice! Tracey wanted this dream not for her but for her three her three kids who were obsessed with the Rabbitohs. I got to talk to her children, who were the absolute sweetest kids I have ever met! They knew everything about the Rabbitohs and gave me a quick lesson about all things footy. They were so excited to meet their favourite players and get their autographs. Seeing her children so happy made Tracey happy which made me happy! And I got to learn a little bit about Australian culture and meet some of the players. I can see why the Dream Makers love doing what they do!

What has been the most enjoyable part of your work with D2L4

Being in the office is always so much fun! Working with the Dreams ladies is an absolute pleasure. They are dedicated and motivated by their cause which I greatly admire.  And Oscar is an added plus when I need a little pup time! I love working on the TGIF Ladies Lunch and I can’t wait to see it unfold! It’s going to be such a fun event and I can’t wait to see my hard work become a reality.

Do you have any personal experience with cancer? Have any of your family/close friends etc. been impacted by cancer?

A very influential teacher to me battled breast cancer. She was always so headstrong and positive- a true embodiment of a real, strong woman. I have also donated almost 2 metres of hair to Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Both make wings for women who have lost their hair battling cancer. Also, I am an active volunteer in Boston where where I work with young cancer patients and their families. Meeting children who are going through so much, but have such a positive outlook on life inspires me to live each day to the fullest!

What has been the most emotional/difficult part of the process?

Hearing about a Dreamer who passed before they could have their dream come true is absolutely heart wrenching. These dreams are so special to the patients and something that they look forward to during some of their most difficult moments. To be so close and not being able to help them make their dream come true just goes to show how fragile life truly is.

Would you recommend it to others?

Of course! This has been such a rewarding experience that I am so grateful I had the opportunity to have. My time at Dreams2Live4 has been nothing short of incredible. I consider myself so lucky to have meet and worked with the Dreams team. Dreams2Live4 has made my time in Australia so special and I couldn’t have asked for a better internship placement.
