“To feel a sense of adventure again” – Cancer had robbed Vicki of so much. This intelligent, articulate woman found herself slowly being worn away by the gruelling routine of cancer treatment. After Dream Maker Karen visited her at The Wesley Hospital Vicki began to yearn for a sense of adventure.
“It was a little surreal to think that this could really come true. My dream was for my husband and I to travel on The Ghan – one of the greatest journeys in the world. To be out of hospital and to be together on this adventure was so very exciting for me. This Dream was also special to me as my mother had made this journey years ago and told me that it was something that I should do. I had just finished 13 days of radiation treatment so it was such an escape. Part of it was just to be able to rest, close my eyes and enjoy the lovely rocking of the train.
“In the lead up to my dream it really changed the conversation around us. We weren’t talking about my next scan but instead about this incredible adventure. It was wonderful to share the excitement with the Wesley staff too. And to share with other people that the Wesley offer such an amazing program.”
The Wesley Hospital supports their patients by funding an in-house Dreams2Live4 program.
